A Tale about Folk Wisdom and about Healthy and Happy Life
We are fond of the English language and consider it as an important part of our future career. That is why we try to participate in different English projects.
A healthy way of life is one of the most important issues nowadays and it was our idea to translate a video on that topic which had already been made by us into the English language to be used in English classes. The genre of our piece of work is a fairy-tale.
Firstly we had to study the peculiarities of this genre in the English and Russian languages. We have learnt that English and Russian fairy-tales have a lot of differences. They have different main characters: in English fairy-tales mostly animals are used. There are no such characters as kings and princes in them. So, the style and the vocabulary are different. There are no such words and word combinations as “bogatyr’, “udal molodetskaya” in English fairy-tales. Also, English fairy-tales do not have traditional beginnings and endings as Russian fairy-tales have.
All this causes some difficulties while translating. But we hope that we have coped with the task as we tried to take into account the specific characteristics of an English fairy-tale without having lost the idea of the Russian one.
